Found Lenses: Photo Experiments with Glass

While crisp realism in photography is a thing of beauty, I love distortion and glitches in the matrix that seem to shift reality.

Refraction and surrealism and accidental cubism.

Photos of how something feels.

And I like to make them in-camera with physical bits of glass.

I am always experimenting with “found” lenses — I find any piece of glass I can, wherever I am, and take photos through it.

Wine glasses and prisms make great found lenses.

Here are some examples:

#1 Taken through a textured piece of glass

Where is my mind? (cue The Pixies). Lausanne, Switzerland. 2025.

#2 Taken through a wine glass

Aperol spritz with a view. Stockholm, 2022.

#3 Taken through a small cubic prism

Taken last weekend in a shady garden. Zürich, 2025.

Your turn.

Look around where you’re walking or sitting.

What can you use as a found lens today?
